Karimeen which is also known as Pearl Spot fish is a freshwater fish available in southern India, especially in back waters of Kerala. It is too hot a delicacy and one of the most expensive fish in Kerala. But it should try once in a life time because it is too delicious or you will miss it later.

Karimeen is cooked in various ways with various flavours to attract the tourist. This Karimeen fry is completely an easy and quick but flavourful fry where you can serve with you normal lunch to make it more hotter.

Step by step method

  • Step 1

    Clean the fish with cold water along with lime and salt, pat dry and place on a plate. Make deep slits on the body of the fish, on both sides.

  • Step 2

    Take all the spice powders along with salt and add the ginger-garlic paste and form a thick paste, if required you can add few drops of lime juice.

  • Step 3

    Apply on the fish and leave it for minimum 1 hour.

  • Step 4

    Heat pan with oil and add curry leaves fry for a minute, then place the fish and let it cook on each side for 6-7 minutes such that the fish is fully cooked. Serve hot with Steamed rice and curry.
